Sauerkraut Stompers (Mallets?)

I made a couple of things to tamp cabbage down in jars for fermenting into sauerkraut. They’re for my aunt.
I made them from an ash log I had saved for some such purpose. One of them (the narrower one) split after dryng out. I guess that log wasn’t as dry as I thought it was… The last picture is my very first wood turning project, a mallet. My son thought it was pretty cool to chew on. The mallet is oak.

Well done, will have to make one but longer, I have been using a baseball bat for years.
