This is the School Chest as described in the book “The Joiner and the Cabinet maker” (Lost Art Press)

This is all handtool work done in clear air dried pine i picked up at a local mill.

The finish is Old Fashioned Milk Paint in the Driftwood color, followed by BLO and wax. As you can see in the 4th picture, the stages of applying a milkpaint finish go from “what have I done!!” to “wow, that looks great” This was a fun project and I will definitely be building another.

Nice dovetail joinery! I love picking out boards at a local small mill. They love it when I bring along something I’ve made from the wood I bought from them.

Very late to the party. I was really busy with classes when you posted this.
Very nice work especially the long series of dovetails in softwood….. very crisp indeed.
Well done. ...... Oh yes, I did notice the bag of glue in the bottom of the chest. :-)
