This Blanket Chest was a design I got from Popular Woodworking Magazine (Glen Huey – Aug 2009). The wood is Walnut and is fairly figured. It was some rough wood I picked up locally (stored in a barn for several years) and I decided to leave the knots and sap wood. I prefer the natural look. I used Cedar panels in the chest bottom and they are positioned over the drawers so you get the cedar aroma in all compartments. The finish is 3 coats of amber shellac and several drops of reddish-brown dye. Topped with 3 coats of lacquer and hand rubbed wax. It’s a Christmas gift for my Mother-in-Law. Thanks for looking.

Rick,
Great chest. You MIL is going to be very pleased with it. I love what you’ve done.
The knots look pretty substantial though. Did you stabilize them with epoxy and why or why not?

Thanks,
G

Been looking at your projects, they are all real nice, this one is super nice, I like the way it is put together, and the quality of your workmanship. The finish sequence I like, I will have to try that. keep posting, your work is worth a look at.
