So this is a 50th anniversary present for a couple of my friends. They are very nice people and do a lot for our local charities, they got me into doing donations so she ordered a humidor from me. This is it, I had artistic freedom and decide to make something very nice and not something that they could just go pick up from our local cigar shops.
This was all done by hand except for cutting the stock down to size. The inlayed dovetails were very stressful since they are all done with a chisel and hammer. I was worried about them breaking or chipping out. It is mahogany and white maple with the Spanish cedar inside. The outside box is finished with a thinned poly mix that I like to use inside and out the Spanish cedar box isn’t finished and smells very nice( my dog/shop buddy loves the hand planed curls of it). The hinges are modified and not quadrant hinges( all the quadrant hinges looked cheap even the $50 sets) the back of the humidor is the stop for the hinges. I planed it until the lid stopped at around 95 degrees.
Thanks for looking and commenting if you do and thanks again to the people who posted on my question thread about humidors. Hopefully you guys like the design, I wanted it to be different from every other humidor I have seen. Comments and critique are welcome.
