This is a small project that I gave as a christmas gift to…myself. I needed to replace some older candle stands that I didn’t care for anymore. I saw this project in Woodsmith #185 and thought it fit the bill. Overall, I think they turned out pretty well.
I used walnut for the stand and hard maple for the grilles. I also added 1/8” metal dowels to the miters at alternating intervals, purely for asthetics. This is much harder than it should be when your shop is not setup to cut metal. But, with perseverence and patience, I was able to finish cutting them. I sanded them smooth after I inserted them into the walnut.
Instead of using a real candles in the stands, I turned to flameless LED candles. I thought this was a much safer alternative. Plus, they blow on/off, so it is actually quite convenient as well.
I finished the stands off with my favorite finish, Danish Oil.
Thanks for looking.
