Cedar Birdhouse

This was a plan from Wood magazine. I built a couple of these last year and gave one to my sister. She liked it so much that she asked me to build another to give to her father-in-law for Christmas. It is made from all cedar except for the redwood shingles. It is finished with tung oil.

I used copper tacks and glue to hold it together. I’m assuming the copper will cause the tannin to stain the wood and give it an aged look in no time.

I like it! Looks great. Simple but not plain looking either. I would love to build one (or two) as well. Can you open it to clean it out? And can you share the plans? Or at least a link where to find it, or the issue of Wood Magazine?

Wow: I love the look, it has a German cottage look to it. Awesome job.

Very nice looking bird house! Do you plan to hang any outdoors, or do they stay inside?

Very very nice. I picked up some cedar to make a few birdhouses too but as of yet it’s still sitting on my lumber rack. Maybe this winter.

Definitely for outside use. Just attach a pipe flange and pipe.

Jcontract- I’ll have to dig around and find out which issue that is. I’ll get back to you on that.

Have your say...
