Dimension: Ht 43” W 16” D 8” I did this sculpture in 2007 out of narra ( Amboyna) burl. I had the burl lying around in my studio for around 4 years before the image of the pregnant lady revealed itself to me out of the thin undulating crusts of burl. It was quite a challenge as a sculptural project. Full control on the material was taken away by the sheer thickness of the wood and its hardness. The sculpture took 1-1/2 months to finish.

That is an amazing piece of burl… and a great sculpture. I REALLY enjoy sculpture.. carving is my favorite way to work wood. Thanks!

Well now I understand the chair designs better. You are actually a great artist masquerading as a woodworker ( and doing a darned good job of it too). Welcome to LJ Benji. I hope you will be staying here a long long time.

I just said my goodbyes to my pregnant torso sculpture. She’s leaving next week to her new home in Singapore. Sigh…..............
