I just finished this project this morning.

It was commissioned by the FCPOA on my ship for a Gas Turbine Technician who is retiring.

This box is walnut and has strategically placed screws for taking the unit apart to facilitate glass replacement if it becomes broken at some point. The interior has a 1/2” foam core board covered with a Navy blue crushed velvet for displaying medals, rank insignias, and command history.

The top part of the box will hold a standard 5 foot US flag.

Finish is 5 coats of poly knocked back with 0000 steel wool, and then waxed with Johnson’s paste wax.

This is the second box of this style I have built, and I am pleased with the outcome. I hope the recipient feels the same way.
