Wow, i cant decide, honestley I think the wood is, well kind of ugly, but to a point that it is fascinating. The form is fantastic. All in all, I don’t think there would be a better use for the wood. There is a lot going on there. It is certainly eye catching. I can’t look away.
I have some questions about the form,
1. when you start, do you start with square, and try to nail it in total dead center on the lathe?
2. or is it sqaured up after you turn and sand.
3. are you using dry, or green wood?

That’s beatiful! I really like the turned down corners – makes it look flexible (or something – searching for the right words…)

Nice job…... sometimes the spalted wood just doesn’t want to do what you want it to….. Turning wings are a lot of fun…... getting the downward shape I have not tried..Yet !. I kind of like that .

Thanks all.
Andrew, it starts out square, at least one side of the blank. And this is semi green, the tree was cut last summer. It wasn’t throwing water at me but it is still moist.

Thanks. Hope I wasn’t to harsh on the wood comment.

Very nice and excellent form….I like spalted hackberry…it is a very easy wood to turn….as long as the spalting doesnt get too soft. I have dyed a couple with analine and they turn out very interesting….

All in all a beautiful turning.

Wow I love the shape and the wood is certainly interesting. I would totaly disagree with Andrew that it’s ugly, I find that the wood actually adds alot to the piece
