Here are a few pen/pencil holders that I made last weekend. Two have walnut bases, and the other one is made from cherry. The cherry one had the most flaws, so I kept that for myself at the cube at work. I will give away the other two for Christmas. The top part is made from maple that I resawed on a bandsaw. Only thing tricky was working with the 1/4” maple after it started cupping since it was so thin. I should’ve let it rest in the shop before planing it down to thickness, but it worked out in the end. Finished with a few coats of Arm-R-Seal and a final coat of wax. This was my first time working with walnut and wow, it is one gorgeous wood when the varnish hits it. One of my most favorite woods now.
I pretty much followed the Wood Whisperer’s design and instructions to the letter, so thanks to Marc yet again.
