This wine box is a popular design that is seen quiet often. I added a pocket at one end so the lid can only slide in one direction. It is made of maple and cherry. The handle was soaked in water for a few hours, then wiped dry and placed in a form overnight. I then removed the pieces applied glue between and placed them into the form again. I let dry overnight before installation. This is one example of changing the appearance of a design to suit your own taste. I think that is what makes woodworking so interesting. A given number of people can take a good design and have several different variations upon completion.

Nice spin on the design! The handle was worth the time it took.

Nice design, I like the alternating wood patterns. Great handle. What did you use for a finish?

I used an oil finish rubbed down with fine steel wool between coats. I think there is 4 coats on this project. Dave

Great design and nice choices of contrasting woods…your patience with the handle certainly paid off.
