This gun cleaning box design is not my own, I have seen several variations of it. This box is made of solid walnut and the interior is solid cherry. The outside corners are maple. At first glance the top appears to be book matched, but that is not the case. The board was about 7 feet long and I happen to find two areas that were very close. I use an oil finish on most of my projects and hope to add a buffer system soon.

Welcome to LJ. Nice box, gorgeous lid. That style is very popular with black powder shooters here in the NW.

Wow! Nice work! Your box is a fine piece of furniture. I am working on a similar box made of walnut that is fashioned from a photo of one I found on the internet. Because of the Gun Cradles on the sides, I haven’t figured out how to keep the lid open. How did you solve this. I have used traditional hinges, and I want the lid to open to about a 95 degree angle, and stay there safely.
