Turned several of these a couple of years ago and gave them as Christmas gifts to clients. Those little worms do spectacular work.

Those are unbelievably beautiful!!!
And, it’s a little worm that produces such a marvelous pattern? Wow.

Actually it’s a fungus, and it can hurt you. Be careful with spalted wood of any kind, you can develope an allergy to it as I did and it will make your eyes swell up and itch and water and get all mattery so you can’t see, I don’t know what happens if you get it in your lungs but I can guess. So just protect yourself. Please. Those are beautiful bowls and I still work with spalted wood, I am just way more careful than I use to be. jockmike

Beautiful bowls – and GREAT advice Mike. We, as woodworkers, often forget about the inherent dangers of our craft. We worry so much about the sharp tools that we forget that the wood can also hurt…....just takes longer for us to find out. A cut shows up instantly – damaged lungs take awhile longer.

Great bowl Sawdust. I love Ambrosia Maple. Here’s some kitchen cabinets I made. I haven’t been able to find all of the pictures. And we’ve sold the house. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/491

I am always impressed by wood turned bowls. This is one nice gift!Excellent point about wood allergies. I just bought a small block of redheart. Not for turning ,but for a small project. I am completely unfamiliar with this wood. Same concerns?
