Bedside table

I’ve been wanting to build my first table for some time. This is a prototype, built out of pine (cheap). Someday I’ll get some nice cherry to make some tables for the living room. My friend Josh helped me design it in 3D using Google Sketchup. The design is loosely based on a console table we bought from Target.

The legs are each made by laminating three boards together. Then I squared them up using the table saw.

It was my first attempt at groove and tenon joinery, and it worked out fairly well, though not perfect. I also made my first rabbets to construct the drawer and used the jigsaw for the first time for the drawer and shelf cutouts.

Thanks to you LJ’s for your help on my finishing questions. We’re planning to use yellow accents in the room, so we painted the inside of the drawer yellow as a little surprise for our guests.

Nothing cheap looking about it. I like the routed corners on the legs below the aprons, that adds just ther right amount of style to the legs.

I need to post my prototype of groove and tenon table. Not anywhere as close to prime time as yours. Mine is merger of old shopsmith article and an older table we have.

Thanks, Steve. I learned a lot of what to do and what NOT to do while building this one!
