What do you use for the coloration inside the routed-out space? Also how do you finish – are they for inside or outside?

I just use black craft paint in the letters and cover with a couple coats of indoor-outdoor urathane.

How’s the longevity of this? Does it last outside? I ask because I also make hand-routered signs to hang inside or outside, and I’ve been using minwax stain, but it gets expensive to buy an entire quart when I only need a few drops of color here and there. I didn’t think the urethane would coat and stick properly over the paint, but then again, I’ve never tried it to test it. Very cool projects!
