Made this for my wife for our anniversary. This was built with all hand tools. It is made of Purple Heart, White Oak, Maple, Sepele, Ash, and Mahogany. it is designed to hold 365 note cards for my wife. The sides are all dovetailed and then inset into the base. The carving in the purple heart is a Celtic trinity with a heart in the middle. the top and all the sides are book matched. it was finished with shellac

All told this was a fun project and a great learning experience.

Here is the build video with more info on how it was made.

Nicely done. I like that the wood is nice and thin too. Cutting dovetails in purple heart is definately a chore but you made it look easy. Excellent job all around.

Thanks! it was fun all around. I don”t find cutting dove tales in Purple Heart to be all that difficult but the softest wood I have ever done them in is Red oak. so I guess I don’t have much to compare it to.

OK, so what was her reaction? Inquiring minds are dying to know! Awesome romantic gesture and a beautiful box.
