Wooden cow horns

I needed some cow horns for a project. I typically use romex wire to make cow horns for some of my projects but for this project I needed a different scale, something bigger. I decided on using wood, a 3/4” oak dowel.

This little project also gave me my first opportunity to try out my new belt sander attachment. The tiny wheel at the front end of the sander really comes in handy sometimes. It did for this project. That’s how I was able to make the points at the ends of the horns.

In the last photo the horns can be seen giving a new twist to one of my outhouse bird feeders.

Thanks for looking.

Beyond cool :-D I have to make one of those.

I thought about making a 1:1 Longhorn skull out of wood, not so long ago.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you Bob.

Using 3/4” dowel I managed to get two fine thread Kreg screws into these horns. When I make the smaller scaled version out of wire for other feeders & bird houses, I have to resort to glue & a couple .23 ga. pins. I have seen birds literally rip the small horns off the wall and take them back to their nest with them.
