I needed a simple project to make to practice using my bandsaw. I had an idea of how the speaker needed to go together based on a kit I had seen at Rockler and a few images I studied online. It’s nothing more than a 10 inch scrap 2×4 and some glue. The whole project took maybe an hour and was a great learning experience. Best of all, the speaker actually works. I get a little more volume out of the phone and it gives off a more stereo sound, but I do lose some bass. I’ll make another one soon after some more research to get a better volume boost and maintain quality.

I’m little suspicious about how they can work, but it’s worth of trying to make.

I don’t doubt it works to increase the effective sound in the direction it is pointed. I saw one built with a 9” paint roller and 2 plastic cups that worked pretty well.

I’ve made a few of these, and they definitely work. Keep the sound channels smooth and flowing, no tight 90 degree bends, and I think the sound travels better with less distortion.

^^^Thanks. I was just tinkering around and this just popped into my head. I’m sure I could get better sound out of this if I spent more time and effort on it. I’m sure the pine interior isn’t doing much for the sound quality either.
