Freezing rain today so I will take some wasted time and turn it into some fun time with some projects that I have done. I guess you can say that this truck is a “finished project”! It was done over 20 years ago, and has survived 2 boys playing with it over the years, with only a broken drive shaft. I wish I could say that about the real cars now. And I guess that helps tell you that I am not a spring chicken…. This truck came of of a WorkBench Magazine years ago. I wish I could tell you what year and month. Maybe someone out there can. I have always wanted to make more but too lazy to without the plans. The cab is one piece, glued on to the body. The side fenders are each one piece glued on to the body block, and the front grill and tailgate are each one glued up piece. The monster tires are two pieces cut out the insides were routered on a router table (looks cool like it was done on a lathe). Made a jig up to hold the tire halfs to cut the tread on a table saw. That was cool at the time. Glued them up staggered and then sanded them down and round. Today if I was to do this the tire would all be done on the lathe…. You note that this turned into a Chevy truck, and the details were all done with a woodburning tool. And as always, we men all make moderate changes to all plans, so this is a bit different than the project called for. Thanks for looking.

Very cool truck. My boys would love this. Obviously, it was built very well to hold up for so long. Well done!

My 2 1/2 yr old son is the biggest monster truck fan ever! He watches it on Speed TV every day!
I HAVE to build him one of these for his 3rd birthday coming up in March.
Thanks for sharing!
