My buddy wanted me to copy a chair he already had and build a 2’ X 2’ kids table for his son who is also my godson.

I had a stash of what I thought was olive ash but turned out to be spalted hackberry elm as far as the guy from hobbithouseinc.org and his friends could tell from the samples.

Everything is mortise and tenon. I cut the mortises by hand in the chairs but rigged up my drill press mortiser for the table legs to save some time. I used a thin spar urethane wiped on with shop towels and a final coat of satin sprayed on. lundmarks paste wax to finish it off. I used the spar because it’s what I had.

Fantastic. The pictures don’t do justice to how great that wood looked.

The spalting all put together really is great for this, lucky kid. Your chairs look very good. Nice work with that set.

Thanks fellas. It came out better than I could’ve hoped. First chair, first piece with curves and first without using sandpaper.

That it was Todd.

Rodgers Production Machinery B-20 20” bandsaw with a 24×24 table. I have the rest of the parts in my shop. I’ll get to it one day

225$. Has some brazed parts. Nothing under tension but will require attention as they weren’t filled all the way.
