Hello
Made this boxman or wooden indian box / collector cabinet about 10 years ago when we lived in Memphis.
My intentions at the time, was to sell it on eBay. Could never part with it, so I still have it.
Made another that is over six feet tall, made from wild cherry and Tennesse coffee bean tree. Still got that one too !
This one is made from a big slab (3×10x8ft) of air dried blackwalnut, that I bought from a 96 year old man that owned a real old rural saw mill about 80 miles east of Memphis on highway 64. Really huge and old equipment.
Cool place to shop. Lumber was in big piles everywhere, stacked and stickered, all through his tree covered property.
Paid sixty-five cents a board foot. He also carried cherry and Tennesse swamp cyprus.
Place is probably still there if you wanted to look. WHITESIDE saw mill.
Box is made from resawn boards from the slab. Handcut dovetails and mortice and tennon construction. Shellac and wax finish.
Regards
DAN

Dan, I’ve never seen anything like this. Very creative, my friend! I can’t figure the scale; perhaps you could provide us the dimensions of the cabinet frame to give us the correct perspective.
I really like this piece and don’t blame you for not wanting to part with it.
