It’s a shameless copy of the original posted here on LJs by the Drunken Woodworker. This is my first attempt at making a bandsaw box. The box is walnut and some kind of “cabinet grade” plywood from Lowes. It’s finished with a mix of BLO, paste wax, some Minwax stain as a tint and mineral spirits. I followed that with a coat of Minwax poly. It was to be the final finish after a few coats, but because of time constraints, I chose to use some spray-on shellac that I rubbed out and polished with paste wax as the final finish.
I started this a few days before Mother’s Day thinking I would have ample time to complete it. It was to be a present for my mom for Mother’s Day. Midway thru completion I lost my dad and well, everything else seemed very trivial. Early morning on Mother’s Day I went to the shop to see if I could finish this off so I could give it to my mother that day. Everyone was coming to my house for a modest MD dinner. Not a very happy day, but one we could share with mom and honor my father.
My dad was 97 and lived a good life. He lived long enough to see his grandchildren grow to become productive young adults and to enjoy a long retirement after 52 years in a dental practice. However, no matter how much we appreciate having him for so long, he’ll still be missed every day and especially so during holidays and family events.
My next project is a case for the flag that was presented to my mom by the Army honor detail that was present at his funeral. My dad served in the Army Dental Corps during WW II.
