This is my first attempt to design an octagon box that will be cut on my CNC machine. The cover has nine facets. The box size is approximately 5 1/2” x 3×2 1/2”. Wood is mahogany with one coat of shellac and three coats of rub on poly.

Looks like a smaller version of an urn. Just put a cross on top and market it as an animal urn.

Roger, this design has eye appeal. I see the top is solid. At first I thought it was jointed pieces of wood, and I wondered about angles and jigs. I see why you don’t hinge the lid since it would be heavy enough to pull the box backward when opened especially with a box this small. I like the shape, and it has a nice feel to it. The proportions look right. Nice work. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Roger, this is a great box. You’ve done a fine job on it.
