Basement Bar

This is a long time project in finishing my basement. Probably going on 3 years. Started of course, with the framing, drywall, flooring (actually, the subfloor went down first!). Then I finally built the bar, including milling up the bar rail myself (it consists of 3 pieces, but it’s almost impossible to tell). I wish I had construction pictures, but the bar is framed up with 2×4s, then the top is built up with 3/4” ply, then 3/4” oak plywood on top of that. Finally the bar rail.

Finally, I built the cabinets last year. They’re mostly MDF except for the end pieces. These cabinets cannot be bought! The depth under the TV is 15”, while the other cabinets are 18” deep. I then topped them with 3/4” ply, 1/4” cement board, then the 4” tumbled marbled tiles.

Just the past couple of weeks I finally finished the cabinets by building the drawers and doors. When I originally was going to build these cabinets, I was going to make them top notch, but I started cutting back on material costs (like using MDF), but I’m still really happy with how they turned out. Made the drawers from MDF, then fronted with solid oak. It’s a blast trying to come up with the design that you want.

The bar “Theme” will be golf, so the walls are tan and green. The green walls used to be REALLY green, but I changed the color once I bought the tiles.

Anyway, the next step is bar stools!!!
