An "E" Table, Maple / Chestnut

My daughter, Emily, wanted an E Table, which she defines as a table in the shape of the letter E. It’s going to be a nightstand. She points out it’s the only letter that can be enlarged to actually make a table. (Actually, I think a Z also qualifies, but that’s not her initial, and besides, who wants to fight thru the joinery of a Z table?)

Anyway, here ‘tis. It’s maple, with a wormy chestnut racing stripe. Whitest maple I could find; wormiest chestnut. Three mortise and tenon joints hold the shelves to the back. I wasn’t entirely comfortable with how much weight these m&t joints could manage, so I added some shelf supports out of the chestnut. I think it woulda looked better without them, but felt I needed the strength.
