I just finished this today, it’s a cd case that holds more cd’s than I’ll ever own
It’s all mdf except for the doors which are pg maple with mullions and glass. The doors slide open and closed in two grooves cut in the top and bottom of the case. I made 1/8” x 1” rabbits in the backs of the doors at top and bottom then milled maple strips 1/8” x 1 1/2” for the bottom and 1/8” x 1 5/8” for the top and fastened them in the rabbits on the doors. The top groove is deeper than the bottom so the doors can be raised up into the top groove and the bottom comes out of its groove allowing the doors to be removed. The shelves were notched on the front then slid into stopped dado’s from the back then the back was put on . All in all a fun project that only took a couple of days to finish.

Nice work! Great design.
What type of finish did you apply?
Did you spray on?

Tekton,
That is absolutely beautiful. I have a son who is a music nut and could probably fill that. You may have given me an idea for Christmas.

Very nice. How many CDs will it hold? I agree with Darryl. I’m probably be close to filling a cabinet of your size and I have them all loaded on my iPod.

TomFran, the finish is sprayed with ML Campbell water white vinyl sealer tinted to “white dove” followed by 2 coats of ML Campbell magnamax “dull”. Sanded with 320 and steel wool between coats. Thanks every body for the kind words.

That is a great looking case Tekton. For me, I would need something like that for DVDs instead of CDs. But I like the look of it.
Did you enjoy working with the MDF? I bet it was much different than regular wood. No grains to worry about, easier to cut, etc.
