A couple years ago, I built antique fire engines of various sizes out of wood. I wanted to letter the smallest size with “Fairbury Fire Dept.”, but did not know how to make such relatively small letters. I recently became aware of fine-point paint pens at Hobby Lobby.

I tried them out, and they worked great for this small lettering :) My photography skills are not very good, and the lettering actually looks much better than my photograph.

If you are interested in my Trials & Tribulations of making these fire engines, you can see my woodworking web site at

Neat little truck ; you did a very fine job.

Small can be a lot harder to make than the larger ones are!

I like fire trucks too. Here is a picture of one I made several years ago.

Little larger than yours.

I like vintage vehicles- both toy and real.

The largest fire engine I have built in wood is this one…........

You can see details about this larger fire engine here.
