I made this EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) shadow box for a retiring Air Force CMSgt. It is 26” wide, 16” tall X 14” deep. The tray will hold a 3’ X 5’ flag and some the awards he wishes to display. The chest & tray are made of cherry. I flocked the bottom of the tray with navy blue flocking as a background for the awards. The chest is lined with an 1/8” veneer of red cedar. I sprayed lacquer to seal the chest but masked off the cedar so it would retain the fragrant scent.
For the EOD badge on the front I used a CNC to carve the badge and (while it already looked great) I had the CNC clear off the bomb, the lightning bolts and star. then I recut just those pieces in Cherry & Maple to glue back into place for contrast. The star is inset by 1/16” on all sides from the original so there would be a Black Walnut outline to the Maple. The 1.5” brass disk inside the lid was engraved with the CNC also. The slogan is part of the EOD badge.
