I had an old cedar two by four that had been sitting in the shed for some time, and I decided to make it into a toy chest! I wanted to use every bit of the board, so this was quite the exercise in careful milling and panel glue-up.

The dimensions of the box are about 15”L x 10”W x 8”H, and the lid overhangs 3/4” on all sides. All edges rounded over with a 1/4” bit. This is for my sister’s kiddos so I finished it with several coats of satin wipe-on poly, knowing it will take a beating.

It’s simple, but I like the way it turned out and the total material cost was only about $15. Thanks for looking!

That is a very nice project.
