This box is made from Gerronggang and Red Gum. It’s not sure if its a box or a cupboard!!
Gerronggang is a hardwood from the swamps of Indonesia and Malaysia. It saws, routs and finishes well, but planing is a bit of a pain. I use a Lie Nielson No. 4 with a high angle frog to give a “York pitch”
The lid panels and the base are all bookmatched. The lid panels come from the same Red Gum board. (sequential cuts.)
The inllays are Red Gum and could have made a little cleaner. Finish is Scandinavian Oil friction sealed by ROS to 4000g.
Regards,
Rob

beautiful design. I once had a little cardboard type box that opened like this. I really loved it. Never thought of doing it with wood

Very nice! The doors even have a little camber to them. Beautiful design and finish.
Question for you:
What is Scandinavian Oil friction sealed?
I’m guessing that it’s an oil finish that is “sanded in” using progressively less abrasive grits.

Where did you hide this one, Rob. I don’t think you showed this to during my visit and you already know just how much I love small wooden boxes!
Love that finish, Mate – wait ‘til you see the box I worked on today.
