Bow-tie “Mayastra”

Brazil nut, crystal, mammoth tusk, brass, lapis lazuli.

Mayastre (from Romanian Pasărea Măiastră, a fairy bird) – a character of the Romanian folklore, a fairy bird that helps Fat Frumos in his battles and ordeals.

In a cycle of fairy tales Meyastre manages to steal three golden apples from a magical apple tree which bears fruit only once a year. Only the son of a king can hurt and catch the bird. In some versions of the tale, the wounded or grasped bird takes its true form – it turns into a fairy.
