I recently took up Cowboy Action shooting. In this sport you need a way to haul your rifle, shotgun, and ammo around. Also it doesn’t hurt to have a place to sit and be out of the direct sun.

My goal was to keep it light and portable, it had to hold someone of my size sitting on it. (250lbs) I also wanted it to be able to be broken down to fit in a smaller vehicle if I ever downsize from a truck.

The wood is Canary wood. It has a wonderful rustic appeal to it and I find it fits in with the era we try to recreate which is around the 1880s.
The wheels however are not very era specific. But they fit some criteria I had. The wheels needed to have a little give, and are flat free. They had to give a little so that when a person sits on the ammo box to relax they give enough for all the legs to settle on to the ground and give a stable seat.

One thing I had to work on was to be able to support the ammo box as a seat and still have a thin light floor in the tray. My solution was to make feet that are attached to the tray but overlap and also support the floor where the ammo box sits.

The Umbrella is mounted to a tenon that comes up through the handle. The Umbrella mount is from a golf trolley.

Great job, that looks awesome and will fit in with style. I’m a 3 gunner so I know the struggle, that should serve you well!

Looks good, modular, and comes with an umbrella. I like it. I like cowboy action shooting too.

That’s a very nice answer to your needs. I’m thinking you need to add a cooler of some type for your sodas and snacks. It can get hot and dry out there on the range.

Already there, the Ammo box is large enough for a days ammo and a soft side cooler to fit in :)

If, I understand this correctly – just the wood alone is worth more then some of my guns. – very cool project.

I don’t so SASS, but I do some 3 gun and I too know the joy of carrying an events worth of gear around without a cart. I like your cart it’s well thought out and has a great period look.
