I recently took up Cowboy Action shooting. In this sport you need a way to haul your rifle, shotgun, and ammo around. Also it doesn’t hurt to have a place to sit and be out of the direct sun.
My goal was to keep it light and portable, it had to hold someone of my size sitting on it. (250lbs) I also wanted it to be able to be broken down to fit in a smaller vehicle if I ever downsize from a truck.
The wood is Canary wood. It has a wonderful rustic appeal to it and I find it fits in with the era we try to recreate which is around the 1880s.
The wheels however are not very era specific. But they fit some criteria I had. The wheels needed to have a little give, and are flat free. They had to give a little so that when a person sits on the ammo box to relax they give enough for all the legs to settle on to the ground and give a stable seat.
One thing I had to work on was to be able to support the ammo box as a seat and still have a thin light floor in the tray. My solution was to make feet that are attached to the tray but overlap and also support the floor where the ammo box sits.
The Umbrella is mounted to a tenon that comes up through the handle. The Umbrella mount is from a golf trolley.
