Had this burl for quite some time. Thought that I would share it with you after seeing some great looking burls here on Lumberjocks. I don’t know what tree this came from, but it did not look like this before I took the bark off. My experence with burls is that you need to take the bark off very soon after cutting. When they dry out they won’t give up the bark very easy. This burl measures at a little over 10 inches tall and around 9 inches wide. It is quite heavy and has a weird overhang that at first looks like a fungus, but it is true wood. This is one of my favorites. I worked for the forestry department for a while and loved to see these lovely works in the woods. I have one sited now that is about the size of a Mini Cooper, and it is about 20 feet up in the air. Haven’t figured out how to get it out of the woods yet, but it is the biggest one that I have ever seen! I will have to find the pictures of it and share it with you. I have many more burls that I will show, but I mostly don’t cut them due to how great they look after the bark is off. This burl is finished in 3 coats of sprayed laquer. Hope you enjoy.
