This desk is made from a slab of laminated smoked bamboo. The smoking gives the bamboo a rich chocolate color all the way thru, but also makes the grass-like fibers of the bamboo very brittle and difficult to work. To overcome this I put a carved piece of maple on the ends with zebra-wood plugs to protect the ends from fraying out. The legs are bubinga and cut with a curve in two directions. The stretchers are maple and have been mortised to create playful tetris shaped openings for accent. Finished with tung oil and polyurethane. I intend to build a chair to go with it.
