A couple mallet's

I wanted to do these for a while, finally got them finished up. 3 are from ShopNotes #2, Joiners Mallet. Each end is filled with lead split shot weights.

The heads are Ipe, Bubigna and Bloodwood. I also had a piece of persimmon and made one from it. All the handles are made of hickory.

I’ll give a couple away for X-Mas gifts. Don’t mind the date on the pictures, I didn’t realize it was wrong. Thanks for looking.

Randy

These are SWEET! Can I be on your Christmas list? I’ve seen that shopnotes you mentioned and I have had these on my mind ever since. I must make one.

PS
as woodworkers we probably all agree that whoever gets one of these as a Christmas gift is going to LOVE it. Does that make us odd? The fact that we can get so excited about a wooden hammer?

My, my. Those are pretty.

I just love mine. And everyone who comes into the shop loves to shake and whack with it.

You did a very nice job,
Steve

Very nice. I have to get around to making one, or some, of these. Just got some more inspiration. Thanks.

Steve, no issues posting the plan. That’s where I found mine.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I originally made one and tried to wedge the handle to early, one of the sides partially separated.

This is the first time I’ve ever used Ipe. I used Titebond 3, hopefully it holds up. I’ll keep that one myself. I would hate to give it to somebody and have it come apart.

Funny thing, my wife wanted one also. Not sure why??

Randy
