I made this directors stand for a college music professor who has been a wonderful influence on both my sons in their college careers. The design evolved from one I posted prevoiusly. It is the first time I have incorporated any metalwork into a project. (The staff lines are metal wires.) The wood is cherry, including the notes. I carved small groves in the back of each note for the wires to set in and help the glue hold better. I’m happy with the end result, I think it’s a unique design.

Cherry is one of my favorite woods. It can be blochy when stained so I always use a washcoat of dewaxed shellac before staining or dyeing. If you don’t want to do either just set your porject by the window, several months of exposure to ultraviolet light causes it to turn a dark red.

That is a beautiful music stand, Dock. My son came in the room while I was looking at it and remarked how nice it was. He is a musician too, so he was naturally interested in it.
You have done an excellent job on this!

That is beautiful DocK. Cherry is one of my favorites also. I see you’re putting that Legacy Mill to use.
