those of you who watch TV on saturday mornings (might be afternoons in your area) will recognize this piece (woodsmithshop season 9, greene & greene hall table). this was to be an xmas gift and proved too large to be used as an entry/hall table. a couple of the g&g style embellishments were left off due to a time crunch.

done in mahogany and curly maple. i ordered a piece of ebony for the drawer pulls. when it didn’t arrive as promptly as expected a piece of mahogany stained black was substituted. drawers slide on nylon tape which is almost toooo frictionless.

were i to do it again i would probably substitute 1” tenons w/ a false tenon exiting in place of the full length tenons. not sure the mass or intended use justifies 3.5” tenons for strength.

finished with stain, shellac, & minwax spray can poly. stain was an eyeballed mix of leftovers from previous projects i found lying around the garage (orange, cordova, ebony, dark mahogany).

I think your version looks better than the Woodsmith shop creation. For some reason the table they always show on their ‘big screen’ looks like they painted it with bright red latex.

What color stain did you use?

Beautiful and specific style and patterns in all details. This handle looks great in same style as rest of the table.

Lots of nice design elements on this piece. I really like the drawer handles.

Well done.

Well this table certainly turned out well! I like your staining choices better than on the show, also—their’s was way too red!

I believe I agree with all of the comments, especially that your table looks much better than the one in the picture in the mag. Your choice of wood and stain really does the trick. Well done.

That is a beautiful table. Your finishing job is great, too. I’ve been trying to finish a large table top recently and it gives me nothing but headaches, so I’m impressed.
