Well this was my spring project, took longer than expected. But when I only get a few hours in the shop a week I guess it didn’t take that long. I got married earlier this year and we decided to redecorate the bedroom.
This is the first piece in the set I designed. The second is in the shop and about half way complete. This piece was made with Curly Maple as the lighter color wood and Cherry as the panels. I used a Minwax Cherry stain to the complete cabinet, with a lacquer spray finish. All the Cherry Panels are double raised panels. Stickley style three point wood drawer glides. Dove tail drawers with the bottom drawer of the three drawer section with cedar bottom. Cabinet was made in two sections than jointed together. As all solid wood projects this one took three men a a boy to move, me being the boy and holding the doors. the other peices to this set will include two night stands, a five drawer tall dresser, and the piece I’m working on a King size Sled Bed. forget to mount the clothes rod that is made of Curly Maple. it still sits on the table in the shop finished but un-installed.

Marty that is a beautiful piece. Once the set is completed it will be a very impressive BR set. Can you imagine what it would cost to go out and buy that set? What do you think your final material costs will be for the set?

I really like the way the maple shows off the tiger stripes. It truly is a wonderful piece. Hurry up and show us the rest.

What a beautiful and impressive piece of woodworking. I also like the contrasting woods… it’s different for an armoire and it works. Thanks for letting us see this gem Marty.

Thanks guys, Well heirloom only time will tell. As far as material cost I bought 300 board ft. of Cherry and Curly Maple. A very good Source in Western Pa. supplies my lumber at 3.00 BF for Curly Maple, and 2.00 BF for the Cherry. Always very Clear and 10-12” wide boards. The total 600 BF, I figure should make almost all five pieces, if not will be very close. This doesn’t include 2 pieces of 3/4 and 4 pieces of 1/4 Cherry plywood, I figure to use. I was also very pleased will the color contrast, actually surprised with the finish appearance.

great price on the lumber. And great project to use it for. Very nice Armoire.

What was the design consideration for the bottom drawer in the upper chest to not match the drawers above it?
