Bookcase from Hell

This piece gave me nothing but trouble, so if you see anything unusual just think of it as a “Bold artistic statement” not a covered up disaster.

The case is made of mahogany with juniper accents in the bottom windows. It is 24” wide at the base, 16.5” at the top. The sides angle in at about 5° and it is about 48” tall.

It looks great. How’d you do the angled dados, just an angled dado stack on the table saw?

Swirt, Those dadoes were one of my issues. I just cut them straight and angled the shelves to fit. That didn’t really work. There is a tiny triangular space above and below each shelf. Next time I plan to modify my shop built router guide to tip at 5° and take it from there.

Well, despite the problems you had with it, this bookcase looks great! I like the mahogany, and the cutouts are unique and very nice looking!

Dean –
Yes, I’m in a Portlander – but from the looks of your work, you are doing a better job of representing the craft in the Northwest than I am! I’ll try to step up my game… Meanwhile, keep making sawdust!!
