This shadowbox was given to my cousin-in-law as a Secret Santa Christmas gift following her and my cousin’s wedding in October.

As my wife and I left the wedding, I found one of the groomsmen’s boutonniere laying on the ground. I wanted to do something nice with it, but I didn’t know what at the time. As luck would have it, I drew her name for our secret Santa gift exchange and I knew exactly what I would do!

The shadowbox holds an 8×10 picture along with their wedding invitation (blocked out for privacy…) and the boutonniere from the wedding.

The box is made from Cherry, the heart is made from padouk, the corner splines are maple, and the inlayed circles are some scrap pine dowels I had lying around. In hindsight I should have gone ahead and cut some hard maple inlay pieces so that they would stand out more. I wanted it to be subtle, but maybe not that subtle.

The box is finished with a 1/3 split of Tung oil/boiled linseed oil/poly…my go to finish!!!

Thanks for looking and God Bless!
