Project Information

This is my second jig this week. Getting "jiggy with it." I have a small drill press and have needed more support for larger pieces like getting a mortise started with a forstner bit on a table leg. The metal support that came with the drill only works with small pieces as I am sure it was only intended. You know you are cheap when you see a jig at HF and you want to beat it. Also, I had to make it adjustable and used hand tightening knobs in order to nudge it forward when I wanted to raise or loser the table due to the crank on the drill's support banging up against the table.
One thing I would have preferred to do is ad laminate to the top and back support but I had already routed the slots into the wood and it would have extremely hard to flush trim the edges after this.I have yet to put it through the paces but if anyone see's additions or improvements then I would certainly appreciate it.

Great job!

Buying or building these larger tables always results in the problem of the table crank.
I think one neat solution would be to eliminate the crank handle and incorporate a 90 degree electric drill to the square drive. This way you have an electric down/up system.
I have the same problem, and I'm gonna try something like that.

This is a nice addition to your drill press that markedly improves its functionality. These tables on these tools just are not suitable for woodworking. The replaceable insert that you added was a good idea as well.

And it took all morning, this morning, to make a simple, quick, rough TS sled… grrrrr… and your table would do very nicely on my DP, and I will eventually get it done… it just won't look as good. Like, I'd even need to go knob shopping…. which would be more fun than normal holiday shopping…
