Hi guys, this is my latest and by far my largest project I have done. I built this amazing bed for my girlfriend and I, and now my fiance as of yesterday =]. I always wanted to build my own bed, and she supported me and drove me to actually start building it. She was unaware of the type of work that I like to do, so she was completely surprised by the bed. It is all made of red oak, and constructed with 50 mortise and tennon joints…. the project took me well over 2 months to build, The finish is multiple coats of wiped on, thinned out satin poly, and a few coats of wax. I first started by designing the complete bed to actual size in sketch-up. It really helped to have the plans that I made right on my laptop in the shop. I still was able to make a few mistakes though, like the mortise that I cut to the wrong line in the last picture haha!!! With only having a 12’x14’ shed as my shop, it was a little tricky to manage some of the larger pieces in there, but it did not stop me from completing my bed. I really enjoyed bulding this bed and it has taught me a lot and I got some new tools for the shop… I hope you guys like my bed, I know my fiance and I love it and will have it for many many years.

Congratulations on the bed…and the engagement! You made a beautiful piece of furniture here. I appreciate you ‘fessing up about the mistake. I make similar errors far too often.

Great looking bed! It’s definitely got a nice A&C look to it—very classic!
