Shaker style step stool with hand cut dovetails.

Made from cherry.

Finished with heated BLO adding bees wax to each coat.

Looks like really nice work,but I can’t help but wonder how high the top step is,it looks like the top step would be too high,making it impossible to step up on.

The top step is high but this design is taken directly from a stool built by the Shakers.

See page 86 of Making Authentic Shaker Furniture: With Measured Drawings of Museum Classics by John Shea

It is meant to be used with the back of the stool positioned against a wall or cabinet. It can also be hung on two shaker pegs to get it off the floor.

I guess those shakers were high steppers in spite of their reputation, Ha Ha .It looks great ,very nice work.
