As I was looking through some old photos that were on my phone I came across this shadowbox that I built for my Captain who was separating from the Air Force. This was the first shadowbox I built and my first time using hickory. It was built so it can either hang on the wall or stand up on its own. I will never forget the look on his face when I presented it to him; it was all both of us could do to keep the dust from watering out eyes!

Nice! What size flag did you use?

This is a beautiful shadow box and so nicely done.

MikeW,

We used a rather large flag as it was the first flag that was flown over the new Survival School Headquarters building which my Captain had been responsible for overseeing the construction and move-in for.

Charles,

Thank you, I was very nervous while I was building it because I knew it was something that he would have for a long time and I wanted to make sure that it was right. We knew he did not want anything over the top, truth be told he wasn’t even expecting this, and knowing that it came from all of us that worked with him made it mean so much more.

With all due respect, the captain’s rank is improperly placed on the flight cap. It belongs on the other side.

You are absolutely right but when I placed the flight cap in there it just did not look right and trust me when I tell you that he and I talked about it after it was presented.
