Hard maple body and wedge with walnut sides. Iron and chip breaker are no-name from a cheap yard sale #3-ish plane.
I am working on a cherry headboard using a 4/4 slab that dried with a huge bow in it. The front will be smoothed and finished, but the back will not… but i didnt want to leave it rough either. So I decided to make a convex molding plane to scrub out the back side enough to remove the rough surface.
It’s great to be able to make a tool with very little resources that is perfectly suited to the job. Apart from some fiddling with the wedge (mostly to shorten it and keep it from catching chips) it went together very quickly and easily and works great,
