Lap desk from leftover flooring

I had leftover hickory flooring so I took the factory finish off and trimmed the edges to use for this lap-desk. The design was altered from the original. No side drawers, there is a removable pen tray at the top back and a sliding box over the lower two compartments. I used cherry as the accent wood and finished all with tung oil.

Excellent work.

Hickory is a much under-appreciated wood, in my opinion

Beautiful piece. I agree with Charlie about the Hickory. Very good use of leftover materials and the joints look great.

I like what you did on the inside, great use of left over wood and the finish is nice.

Hey, I have some flooring pieces and I can try that! I have to dig out that lap desk article I put away somewhere first.

Nice laptop – the wooden kind.

I missed this when you posted it earlier. Very impressive. You have a good imagination for scraps!
