Alot of what I do for practice on the lathe is make drop spindles. This usually consist of a spindle, and a whorl. Now there are some people out there that make just awesome stuff, but mine are most average, and I am still learning. Having only done this for about 6 months, it is pretty neat to look back on the timeline of the stuff I have made, and watch other people use them.
Anyway, enough background. Here is a spindle I made about 3 months ago. It is an oak crochet hook with a walnut whorl. It is a lace weight spindle, because it is so light, that you can only make thread on it. This happens to be one of my favorites, and is one of my “marker” projects, to help me see the progress I have made.

Definitely not average. I have had the pleasure of spinning with your spindles and I would have to say “most definitely not average”...well balanced, nice weight and feel, looong spin time. The two I own spin like a dream. Keep up the good work.
Have your say...
