This is a cane that was made for a young lady in her mid 70’s for her birthday, commissioned by her children. It is a smaller handle made to provide a comfortable and easy grip with figure catches to keep one’s hand from slipping. The handle is made of Claro Black Walnut and the shaft is figured Cherry. These are hardwoods that are still light weight enough for a petite person to carry without tiring, as some hardwoods can be quite heavy. The shaft diameter is approximately 1 1/4” tapering to 3/4” at the bottom tip.

Beautiful, Meilie!

The contrasts in colors are really striking.

With an excellent choice of wood, superb finish, contrasting dowels you have made another special cane. The young lady will be happy to own it. Is the height of the cane tailormade for the person or there are standard heights like Ex L, L, M, S for the readymade garments?

Sharad: I try to get as much information about the user as possible to consider their needs. Height and hand size are basics that I try to get measurements for. Sometimes this information is vague but I “test drive” my canes when making them to make sure they are comfortable.
