This gun holder started of as just a gun magnet made by Lockdown. I wanted something that fit under my mattress and had an adjustable angle. The adjustable mount for the magnet is held in place by a thumb screw. There is a nut embedded in the back of the board. I also made the adjustable magnet mount on a slight incline to allow room for my thumb when i grab it quickly.

Good idea young fellow. Now that I am an old man I find I like my weapon closer at hand. I am going to make me one these, had never thought about it. Thanks

Hey, thanks! This was a gift to a former GF but i can tell you a few things i learned.
1) i used 3/4” oak for both pieces. However, on a second project I might use 1/2” for the piece that goes under the mattress. Sometimes i could feel a hint of the 3/4” stock even under a thick mattress.
2) i didn’t mention it but on the piece that goes under the mattress, I applied some adhesive backed felt to help hold the whole piece in place when the gun is grabbed. My finish was super smooth, so without the felt it slipped and slid between the box spring and mattress.
3) I don’t want to promote any specific product, but I got this magnet on Amazon. I think i paid $16 but they are now $20. Just do a search for “gun magnet” and several options pop up. I liked the Lockdown brand because it’s only 1/2” in profile. I also have one mounted under my dash in my truck.
Thanks for your comments!

Nice design and well done. I definitely like it, even though I’m sure the PC police will critize your project as lacking adequate “child safety features”. The little buggers just need to be taught to leave things alone, instead of pampered and allowed to evolve into “oppressed, special snowflakes of love”. Also, like your customized M&P with the white lettering, night sights and Talon grips. You might consider an Apex trigger job to drop the trigger pull and give a clean, crisp break.

John C, I agree wholeheartedly. I am a bachelor, so no kids. Even with little ones in the house, if i’m not laying in bed, it’s on my person. PC police can get bent.
And thanks. I love my 9c. :) oh… And the Apex was the 1st thing I did :)

I agree on that as well , If you want to keep guns around then do it the right way or pay the price. If you don’t want to keep guns around that’s your choice as well but don’t bug me about mine.

The Tac-Mag is available on eBay for $11.97 but its profile is .79” and the magnets are closer together. My Ruger revolver is stainless steel but tests good with a speaker magnet. Maybe I’ll play around with using the speaker magnet.
