This is a box I just finished for a customer. He was very definite on what he wanted. He wanted a red rose with small yellow flowers, three bees and a tiger swallowtail butterfly. He also wanted part of the butterfly to to come out on the frame of the lid so it looks like it just landed on the box. He also wanted the box made out of maple.

Since he already had everything figured out all I had to do was make it. He hasn’t seen it yet so I hope he likes it.

I’d say you have all the boxes ticked Don. What’s not to like.

Personally I think it is perfect. I’ve been cutting a lot of bees lately and I think yours look great
...... and the butterfly and flowers aren’t too shabby either.

Very well done, you should have a very happy customer.

Don, the marquetry is exquisite as always. You do that so well! However this box is more than the art work.

The box itself is also a very interesting design. I like the paneled sides, the inset top, pivot lid, and the inverted taper on the legs. I especially like the way you have integrated the legs into the joinery of the side panels. What a wonderful idea you have there. I have not seen that before. The rounded lift is a nice idea so that this shape doesn’t compete with the square panels and other straight lines. Don, you have some nice concepts here and have made a really unique creation. Great job. It shows a good deal of thought and design detail. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Definately deserves daily top 3. Lot of woodworking elements I see here – especialy corners. Top lid is magnificant. Those marquetry is true art work with such beautiful colours.

this is one of the nicest things I have seen lately. If the customer does not like it, he’s an idiot. Superior work on the box and the marquetry. Kudos to you.

Wow. The design is beautiful. Could you comment on how the corners are done (new woodworker and I’m not picturing the “how” of this)?

The Marquetry is very nice, the butterfly looks like its really flying over the rest of the marquetry. Congrats!!!
